Washington Master Chorale (WMC) is excited to announce their upcoming 2023-2024, which will begin on October 22, 2023 and conclude March 3, 2024. WMC performs choral repertoire from the 19th Century onward, with a particular emphasis on more contemporary works from the 20th and 21st Centuries. In this, their 14th season of performances, WMC will showcase Black American composers, feature rarely heard English and American Christmas carols, and celebrate the beloved operatic style of Bel Canto with a tribute to the American suffragist movement.
I, Too, Sing AmericaOctober 22, 2023 | 5 pm
The season begins with I, Too, Sing America on October 22 at 5pm at Church of the Epiphany (1317 G Street, NW). The concert will celebrate the contributions by contemporary Black American composers to the choral music canon and feature the music of Mason Bynes, winner of WMC’s inaugural Florence Price Commission Competition. The highlight of the program will be the world premiere of Bynes’ much-anticipated new work. In addition, WMC will present works by renowned Washington DC composers Ronald Walton, Marcea McGuire, and Adolphus Hailstork, among others.

Sweet was the SongDecember 10, 2023 | 3 pm
On December 10th, WMC will perform their treasured holiday tradition of seasonal choral music with Sweet was the Song at 3pm at St Ann’s Catholic Church (4001 Yuma Street, NW). This concert will feature rarely heard old English and American carols, along with holiday favorites and audience caroling with organ and brass. In addition, Sweet was the Song will mark the Washington premiere of Japanese American composer Riley Ferretti’s stunning new work Dona Nobis Pacem.

A Bel Canto SalonMarch 3, 2024 | 5 pm
The season finale takes place on March 3, 2024 with A Bel Canto Salon at National Presbyterian Church (4101 Nebraska Ave, NW) at 5pm. In this performance two Steinways will grace the stage to celebrate this beloved operatic style. Highlights Include Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle, in its original salon form. In addition, WMC will present excerpts from Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzer, Op. 52, and Lori Latiman’s witty and eloquent vocal cycle, Are Women People?, on texts from the American suffragist movement.

Springtime Supper + SongApril 27, 2024 | 6 pm
Please join us for our elegant annual benefit dinner, Springtime Supper & Song, featuring the WMC Chamber Singers presenting a preview of our 2024/25 season. The program will be held in a private residence in Alexandria, Virginia, and will include wine, hors d'oeuvres, and a delicious buffet dinner following the program.
