Thank you for your interest in auditioning for the Washington Master Chorale! Maestro Colohan is always glad to hear singers who are interested in our group, and he holds auditions throughout the year. Because we maintain a stable roster of experienced choral singers, we only occasionally have openings and they generally occur between season. We do, however, encourage you to set up an audition right away if you are interested in the group!

AUDITION PREPARATION

PROFESSIONAL POSITIONS
Professional positions require significant past professional choral experience. Please prepare one of the following arias from Handel's Messiah as well as a contrasting (lyrical) art song from the 19th or 20th century:
  • Soprano - "Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion"
  • Alto - "O Thou that tellest good tidings to Zion"
  • Tenor - "Ev'ry valley shall be exalted"
  • Bass - "The trumpet shall sound
There will also be a short range, ear, and sight-singing test.
VOLUNTEER POSITIONS
Volunteer positions require significant past volunteer choral experience. Please prepare your voice part from the fourth movement ("Wie lieblich sind deine Wohnungen") of Brahms's Ein deutsches Requiem (through measure 64) and from "And He shall purify" from Handel's Messiah (through measure 30).     2024/2025 Rehearsal Schedule
    We will reply to you via email with your assigned date and time - we will do our best to accommodate your preferred date and time. You will also be provided copies of the professional or volunteer policy information (as applicable) and the WMC rehearsal protocol to review before the audition.

    Auditions are approximately 25 minutes in length and will be scheduled for a half-hour. Auditions are held at St. Ann Roman Catholic Church (4001 Yuma St. NW, Washington, D.C., 20016). Please plan to arrive 5 minutes before your scheduled audition.
